Rob Borland
A Visionary in Sustainable Engineering
Robert Thomas Borland MScRes (AgEng), CEng MIAgrE, the founder of Earthveld, is a highly accomplished engineer with a career spanning over 34 years. His expertise in project management, engineering, and sustainable innovation has been pivotal in transforming theoretical ideas into groundbreaking technologies. With a remarkable track record in leading complex, multi-million-pound projects, Rob has worked across a diverse range of industries, including construction, agriculture, and environmental regeneration.
Rob’s work has left a lasting impact, from designing zero-tillage planters that revolutionize agriculture to developing anaerobic digester systems that promote sustainable energy production.
His career includes key leadership roles at industry giants like Caterpillar, Perkins, and JCB, where he contributed to innovative designs and product advancements. Rob has also secured multiple patents for eco-friendly technologies that enhance both environmental and animal well-being in farming.
Driven by a deep respect for nature and a passion for sustainability, Rob founded Earthveld to embody his vision of a greener, more sustainable future. BreezePower
BreezePower is a cost-effective, rooftop wind turbine that generates 4kW of power at low wind speeds, offering an easy-to-install renewable energy solution for homes and businesses.
ISOT Planter
Combine the two ISOT planters into one. The bare metal frame with the weight “ISOT Zero-Tillage Planter” was the 1st prototype produced as part of my MScRes.ISOT is a groundbreaking seed planter that enhances precision seeding, reduces fuel usage, and promotes sustainable farming, suitable for both commercial and subsistence agriculture.
Bee Sentry
The Bee Sentry was developed by hobbyist beekeeper Andy Lewin, who noticed that robber bees are less able to find entrances to other hives if they are subtly obscured. If they do find the entrance to the hive, the design of the Bee Sentry® enables the resident hive bees to defend their hive effectively, thus preventing the hive from being robbed.
When the first Corex® prototypes were designed, made and fitted, it also showed that the Bee Sentry also helped to prevent wax moths, mice and predatory hornets from entering the hive. In addtion to this it has been subseqently discovered that the Bee Sentry® also reduces drafts into the hive which helps the hive to stay warm during the cold seasons and this when also fitted to a well-insulated hive it has been observed that the bees stay active longer into the Autumn and then start earlier after Winter which has very significant benefits for the hive.
