Bee Sentry

The Bee Sentry was developed by hobbyist beekeeper Andy Lewin, who noticed that robber bees are less able to find entrances to other hives if they are subtly obscured. If they do find the entrance to the hive, the design of the Bee Sentry® enables the resident hive bees to defend their hive effectively, thus preventing the hive from being robbed.
 
When the first Corex® prototypes were designed, made and fitted, it also showed that the Bee Sentry also helped to prevent wax moths, mice and predatory hornets from entering the hive. In addtion to this it has been subseqently discovered that the Bee Sentry® also reduces drafts into the hive which helps the hive to stay warm during the cold seasons and this when also fitted to a well-insulated hive it has been observed that the bees stay active longer into the Autumn and then start earlier after Winter which has very significant benefits for the hive.
